Paul #1 / Dr. Mortensen

Dr. Mortensen was one of my biggest influences in my development at Valley Forge Christian College.  He served as the VP of Student Life my entire four years at the school and was my supervisor for two of those years.

It was during this time that Dr. Mortensen mentored me as a student, a leader, and a friend.

He was our overseeing advisor for SGA my entire three years.

While I can't give you exact phrases that Dr. Mortensen has said to me, I am often reminded of his character and work ethic. He helped me understand the importance of "letting your actions match your words." Everyday he portrayed true character in the way that he handled every situation and always stood for what he believed.

His work ethic is what made the most genuine impact. He was one of the busiest people at VFCC when I served under his leadership. Everyday he was in the office around 6:00 am and didn't leave until at least 4:30. While it may seem that this left very little room for family time, he always ensured that he put his family first.

I remember once his daughter Amber say to Dr. Mortensen "He is like the son you have always wanted." And to me he was always a father like figure.

Dr. Mortensen is certainly an example of a great mentor.
